Why Student Accommodation in Sheffield is in a Class of its Own
Based in South Yorkshire with the Peaks and large north western cities like Liverpool, Manchester and Leeds, and with excellent transport links across the region, the UK and further afield, it’s not hard to see the appeal of Sheffield. This eco-friendly city is vibrant, cultured and forward-looking, but has not lost sight of its rich history.
And, with two universities and a number of colleges in the city, it’s also no wonder that the place is such a hit with students.
One leading Sheffield letting agent insists that student accommodation in the city remains one of the best performing investment areas, despite claims that this market is slowing down. A spokesman for the agency said: “Despite recent reports to the contrary, demand still outweighs supply for Sheffield student accommodation, and the student population is growing here, meaning short times when property is empty and strong landlord yields.”
While the national picture is that applicants for university places are slightly down, demand from overseas students, especially those from outside Europe, is still very strong. Equally, there have been recent reports that new student housing developments have not kept up with rising student numbers in recent years. The spokesman continued: “Rents on purpose-built accommodation in particular is expected to grow year on year in most university cities, which is clearly great news for the residential investor.”
